I built a pond in the backyard a couple of years ago and stocked it with a couple of dozen goldfish.
This is how the pond looks today.
I have noticed that goldfish swim in a schooling pattern that is unique. One of the goldfish takes the lead and the others take up positions behind in two or three lines.
As the school moves through the water, the lead fish will fall back, and another will take its place place. The school will form behind that fish without missing a beat. Most of the fish in the pond participate in this performance and the process continues in an ever-changing pattern for minutes at a time.
I have been thinking about this almost dance-like performance that the fish do, and with it in mind, I have been working on a new sculpture for the last couple of weeks, and I thought that I would share the progress. This is the start of the process.
